Q. What is a PMI SIG?
A. Specific Interest Groups are industry- or interest-based
components of PMI. The PMI Bylaws define a Specific Interest
Group as “a group of Institute members representing specific
interests, with no distinct and definable geographic location,
and where the actual or potential number of SIG members will
create a viable subsidiary organization of the Institute.”
Q. Can I belong to more than one SIG?
A. Yes, of course. A good amount of members do belong to more
than one SIG. You may prefer to join several SIGs based on your
daily PM responsibilities, activities or interests. You will
also gain insight on how various SIGs conduct business and communication.
Q. What are International Development (ID) Projects?
A. ID Projects are medium to large size public projects
and/or programs in all sectors of developing countries financed
by the following types of institutions:
- Multilateral Development Banks such as the World Bank and
regional development banks (ADB, AfDB, IADB, CDB etc.)
- United Nations Associated Agencies (including UNDP, FAO,
ILO, WHO, UNIDO etc.)
- Bilateral and multi-lateral government agencies (such as
USAID, European Union or CDA)
- Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) (such as CARE, Catholic
Relief Services or Save the Children)
- Government agencies in developing countries.
Thus, by definition, ID Projects involve a
number of different actors including donor agencies, (often more
than one), government organizations at several levels, consultants,
contractors, trainers, evaluators, researchers, and local beneficiaries
including local organizations. To view an entire article by Robert
